Although the vast majority of individual bots are benign, they can be coordinated as botnets and weaponized to distribute nefarious links such as phishing campaigns, malware, ransomware, fraudulent surveys, spamruns, malicious apps that hijack control of the victim’s accounts, and spam websites that pay for clicks. The botnet is named for the mythical Greek Sirens, who seduced wayward sailors with their singing and lured them to their doom.

This post ties together the SIREN botnet discovered by Zero FOX Threat Research with a large email spam botnet recently disclosed by Brian Krebs in Krebs On Security.We’ve reached out to Cassell and Martin and will update this story when they respond.In the suit, which was filed by an anonymous parent on behalf of their child, Valve is accused of deliberately allowing the creation of a market where players and third-parties trade weapon skins like casino chips.Twitter was prompt and efficient in their takedown, as the malicious botnet is in clear violation of their Terms of Service.Zero FOX also disclosed all of the short urls to Google Security Team, who subsequently removed them and added the long Url domains into their blacklists.This additional information is rewarded by the Double-Opt program, too.
